Biography

Comfort Bagwell was born in about 1664 in Accomack County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Thomas Bagwell and his wife, Ann (Stockley) Bagwell.[1]

Comfort married Perry Leatherbury in about 1680 in Accomack Co., Virginia. They had at least the following 4 children:

  1. Perry LEATHERBURY b: ABT 1681 in Accomac Co. Va.
  2. Charles LEATHERBURY b: ABT 1685 in Accomac Co. Va.
  3. Thomas LEATHERBURY b: ABT 1687 in Accomac Co. Va.
  4. Edmund LEATHERBURY b: ABT 1683 in Accomac Co. Va.

Perry Leatherbury died in Accomack County, Virginia Colony in April 1709. His will was proven then.[2] Comfort (Bagwell) Leatherbury remarried to Robert Burton, Esq., in Accomack County, Virginia in about 1712. His 1st wife, Catherine (Cotton) Burton, b: 1649, died around that time. Comfort moved to Sussex County, Delaware, shortly thereafter, to Burton's plantation in Indian River Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware.

Comfort Bagwell (b. c 1664, d. c 1731) was born in 1774 at Accomack, Virginia.[3]She married Perry Leatherbury I (1st), son of Thomas Leatherbury (Leatherbarrow) and Eleanor Perry (Perry?), circa 1685.2 They were the parents of Comfort (Leatherbury) Prettyman. She died in 1731 at Accomack, Virginia. [4]

1731 birthdate is after her husband Perry Leatherbury died in 1709. Other records show that her birthdate may have been closer to 1665.

David, I think you were right originally when you had parents as Comfort and Perry.
