Albon Lesley Bagwell was born on August 3, 1877, in East St. Louis, Illinois. He was the son of James Henry Bagwell and Mary Jane (Brown) Bagwell. He had 11 siblings: Daniel Van Bagwell, William Thomas Bagwell, (Burrel) Benjamin Bagwell, Julia Madaline Bagwell, Linsey E. Bagwell, Ida M. Bagwell, Alvon Bagwell, Ida M. Bagwell, William T. Bagwill, Effie Elizabeth Bagwell, and Albert Ross Bagwell Sr[1].
Albon served in the light artillery with Battery K, 1st Regiment, US Army during the Spanish American War in 1898. He kept a bayonet from the war that he gave to his nephew, Albert Ross Bagwell Jr, who gave it to his son, James Albert Bagwell. When James divorced his wife, Cherry, they sold it off to a private dealer[2].
He married Amy Jane Downen on February 17, 1901, in Campbell Hill, Illinois. They had 4 children: Leslie Albon, Mabel Irene, Gertrude May, and James William.
Albon passed away on January 13, 1968 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He is buried in Sunset Cemetery, located in Quincy, Illinois[3].
