Biography

Christian was born in 1849 in Heidingsfeld, Germany. He passed away in 1922.

Copies of his German registration to the U.S. from Feb 1918 show his parents listed as Michael and Elizabeth Bahr. It shows he arrived in the U.S. in February, 26, 1868, in New York. [1]

He first took up residence in coming to America in East Lynne and later moved to Tremont, Illinois. About ten years later he came to Coffey County and settled on the homeplace southwest of Gridley, in 1879. He lived there until 1915 when he retired and moved to Gridley. Upon arriving in Kansas, Chris was gone for a week at a time working on the homestead where he was preparing a home for his family. Until the homestead was finished the family lived in a rented shack, that the snow blew through all of the cracks. His wife, Anna, was very happy about the two room house on homestead that Chris built. He even put a porch on the side so she could do the laundry there. Many homesteaders didn't stick it out, as they would get their fill of droughts, grasshoppers, etc, but Chris did. He put his all into it and established an ideal farm home. They raised their eleven children to woman and manhood.

He is found in Coffey County, Kansas in the following Census references under Christopher. The 1920 census references his immigration year was 1868. [2][3][4] He is found in Coffey County, Kansas in the following Census references under Chris [5][6]
