Biography

Abigail was born 7 April 1711 in Bradford, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Richard Bailey and his wife Joanna Webster. [1] [2]

Marriage

Abigail was married to John Day on 1 June 1731 in Bradford, Massachusetts. [1] [3] They had the following children:

John and Abigail settled on a tract of land in the West part of the town [Bradford, MA], next to Andover, and on the road leading from Haverhill to Boston.

As described in the following reference,[4] Abigail's father (Elder Richard of Bradford), had in 1725, along with his Bradford neighbour Caleb Hopkinson, purchased a 150 acre tract of land in Haverhill. He divided this land among his three youngest sons, Richard, Ebenezer and Amos, who each built similar houses and settled there, around 1740. This land was officially inherited ,however, by all Elder Richard's children, including Abigail, upon his death in 1748, so it became necessary for the other siblings to formalize ownership by Richard Jr. and Ebenezer of their portions. So on 21 Nov. 1748, Richard Jr. and his brother Ebenezer each received a deed to their respective portions of this land, neighbouring on a third section occupied by brother Amos. The above reference includes a complete transcription of the deed to Ebenezer, and includes the mark for Abigail Day beside the signature of her husband.
