Biography

27 Apr 1854 Thomas was born at Forest Creek, Shire of Lodden, Victoria at the time of the Gold rushes. He had 2 older siblings living and 6 who had died [1]

A sister, Elizabeth was born 2 years later. She dies at 1 year old.

1877 Married Mary Elizabeth Livett. [2]

They had 8 children all of whom lived to adulthood.

1910 Moved to Frankston, Vic. (1)

1925 His wife dies after a long illness.

1930 A Birthday Party!

A surprise' birthday party was sprung upon Mr. T. Bailey, of Frankston Nursery, on the evening of April 15 by Mr. and Mrs Devanny and about 20 guests. An appetising birth day feast was arranged by the hostess and congratulatory speeches were made by Cr.F. H. Wells and Mr. A. Ewers. Mr. Bailey suitably responded. Mr. Bailey was the recipient of manly valuable and u:eful presents. Music and social intercourse made the evening pass all too quickly, and the party was not terminated till the small hours of next morning. Mr. F. Hanton at the piano delighted the gathering. Some of the good old. songs were sung by -Mr. F. Wells, I senr. and Mr. R. Wells. A radio set kindly loaned and installed for the occasion by Mr. J. H. Schulz was greatly appreciated. The singing .of, For He's a Jolly Good Fellow and Auld Lang Syne. concluded a party which had been crammed with merriment and good fellowship. (2)


Aug 1937: Obituary 'MR. T. BAILEY. Mr. Thomas' Bailey died at his residence, Cranbourne road, Frankston, on Monday, aged 83 years. Mr. Bailey was a resident of Frankston for 27 years and established the Frankston Nursery which, since his retirement some years ago, has been carried on by his son-in-law and daughter (Mr and Mrs A. K. Stevens). He leaves three sons and five daughters. The funeral, which was private, took place in the Frankston Cemetery on Tuesday. The casket was carried by Messrs. G. Bailey, R. Ewers (grandsons), H. Bailey (son) and A. K. Stevens (son-in-law). The pall-bearers were Cr. F. H. Wells, Messrs. J. Thomson, RH Chipperfeld, S. Chipperfield, C. Gray, F. S. Bell, T.. Bailey and =S. Bailey. A service was held at the home by the Rev. G.,A. Osmond, who also officiated at the grave. Mr. Hector Gamble had charge of the funeral arrangements. (1)
