Joseph Bailey was born 2 Nov 1719 in Little Compton, Newport County, Colony of Rhode Island. His parents were Thomas Bailey and Mary Wood.[1][2]

Joseph married Hannah Sanford at Newport, Rhode Island in 1743.[3][4] Hannah was born in 1725 at Newport, Rhode Island, daughter of Esbon Sanford and Mary Woodward.[3][5]

Joseph Bailey, wife Hannah, and their children removed to Newport, Nova Scotia in 1761, where Joseph was a Newport Grantee. Their children were Deborah, Hannah, Sarah and Joseph.[6]

Hannah (Sanford) Bailey’s date of death is unknown,[6] but she was alive when her husband wrote his Will. The Will of Joseph Bailey, dated Apr. 7, 1787, proved Aug. 27, 1787, mentions son Joseph Sanford Bailey, daughters Deborah Dimoek and Sarah Brown, grandchildren (the children of George Brightman) and his wife Hannah.[7]
