William Bailey was born about 1753 in Albemarle Co., VA to Samuel Bailey and Judith Mary Curtis.
Private William Bailey served with 4th Virginia Regiment (1776), Continental Army during the American Revolution.
William Bailey is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A103576.
He enlisted as a soldier of the Revolutionary War in 1776 and served two years under Capt. Walker in the Virginia 6th Regiment.
He served in Christian's Company, VA 4th Regiment and Colonel Meriweather 1778-1780, 1781. [1]
In 1795 he married Sarah "Sally" Sprouse of Albemarle Co. and came to Kanawha Co. with his cousins Isham & Henry Bailey. They were granted land lying in Cabell Co. on the Guyandotte but sold it around 1805. William settled on what is now Clay Bank Branch Road, off Doc Bailey Road in Cross Lanes, WV and reared a large family. William died March 1, 1837
Birth
Birth Date: ABT 1753
Place: Albermarle county, VA
Removed ABT from Birth Date and marked as uncertain.
Note: It is not clear that William, with these dates (1753-1837) was son of the assigned Samuel, nor sibling of the established children of Samuel. A spouse for Samuel was not discovered in "Bailey Family" by Gresham, but this in fact allows for difference of opinion. A check with Wyatt Wiley Bailey (1798-1864) researchers at Ancestry.com shows Wyatt's father as William, (1753-1837), but with William's parents as Callum Bailey (1717-1787) and Sarah Holman (1721-1761). The Wyatt Bailey researcher gives Wyatt's mother as Sarah Bedford. The marriage record for Adam Driskill and Sarah Bailey 1794, Campbell Co. VA, gives Sarah's parents as William and Marah Baley. Witnesses were Thomas Baley and Poley Baley. Another Ancestry.com researcher gives Sarah (1750-1860) indeed as sister of Wyatt (same dates). The geography, Campbell Co. VA doesn't seem to fit that of other known descendants of Samuel Bailey-463. I (Stuerke-1) have recognized the following note, and have disconnected this William from Samuel Bailey-463.
I suspect the dates of the children's births are either incorrect or of another generation. I have included them as I got them from the Mary Baier file though so the names are at least recorded.
