Hannah Bailey was born 28 March 1746 in Bradford, Essex, Massachusetts, the daughter of James Bailey and Rachel Berry.[1]
She almost certainly moved as a teenager (early 1760s) with her parents to Cumberland County, MA (later Maine after 1820). It was there on 6 Dec. 1764 that she was married to Thomas Manchester.[2] He was born in 1739, the son of Stephen Manchester and Grace Farrow. Hannah and Thomas had six children, the oldest born in Windham, Cumberland County, MA (part of Maine after 1820) and the others at Haverhill, NH:
On 12 Mar. 1766, Thomas purchased land in Windham, Cumberland County, MA from John Farrow, probably his uncle.[3] He divested the property on 13 Apr. 1769, co-signed by wife Hannah.[4] This was about the time the family moved to Haverhill, NH, said to be 1770.
Thomas was a private in Capt. Samuel Young's (New Hampshire) company in the Revolutionary War, and was at the capture of Ticonderoga, NY, where he died in 1777.

Hannah re-married to George Garland, who was born in Scotland about 1735 and migrated to America on the ship "Lilly" in 1774. He was said to have built the first frame house in Barnet, VT on what is now called "Garland Hill Road". Hannah and George had three children, all born at Barnet, VT:
This family was living in Barnet, VT when the 1790, 1800 and 1810 censuses were taken. Hannah died in 1811 at Barnet, VT, at age 64.[6] She was buried with her second husband at Barnet Center Cemetery in Barnet, VT.[7] Widower George Garland re-married with Mrs. Dolly Remick, probable widow of John M Remick (1766-1805). George died 3 June 1821 at Barnet, VT and was survived by his second wife. He left a will dated 28 May 1821,[8] in which he named his three daughters as listed above. Step-son Isaac Remick was the estate executor, with wife Dolly having declined this role. The will was proved 29 June 1821.
