Biography

Maria Judith Bailey was born in 1833 (age per the 1850 census referenced below), daughter of Daniel Bailey and his wife Judith Emerson.

On the 1850 Census, she was at age 17 living in Richford, Vermont her parents Daniel and Judith[1]. Interestingly, she lived directly next door to the man she would soon marry.

In 1850 (or perhaps 1851), Maria married Ezra Stanhope. They settled in Richford, Vermont, where they had the following children[2][3]:

  1. Electa Ann, b. 1852
  2. Alta b. 1854
  3. Orlando b. 1856
  4. Spafford b. 1859
  5. Safford b. 1859, and
  6. Jane b. 1861.

In 1880, only one child (Safford, Age 21) remained at home with Ezra and Maria. They had by that time moved from Richford to Eden Vermont[4].

Maria passed away in 1893 at the age of 60 and was buried (Plot # 248) in Brock Memorial Cemetery in Glen Sutton, Quebec, Canada[5][6][7]
