Biography

Mourning was born in 1812. Her parents were Ralph Bailey and Elizabeth Nix. She married Lewis Thompson in 1839.[1] He passed away in 1847.

She married her second husband, James Franklin Pittman, sometime between Nov 1847 (Lewis's death) to about Jan 1848 (their daughter, Frances, was born in Aug 1848). In the 1850 census Mourning (age 32) and her second husbnad, James Pittman, were in Subdivision 45, Jackson, Georgia, United States.[2]

In 1860, the family was living in Thomas County, Georgia.[3]They were still there in 1870[4] and 1880.[5]

In the 1870 census Manning [sic] (age 58), Keeping House, was in Ochlocknee, Thomas, Georgia.[6]

In the 1880 census Mourning (age 69), Keeps House, was the wife of James F. Pittman in Cairo, Thomas, Georgia, United States.[7]

She passed away in 1895 in Thomasville, Georgia. Burial was in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia.[8][9]

Her obituary in the Thomasville Daily Times dated 18 Jul 1895 (a Thursday) states she died 11 PM on Tuesday night which makes her date of death 16 Jul 1895.[10]
