Biography
Rachel Jane Bailey was the daughter of John & Nancy Baker Bailey. She was born in Leslie County. She married Isaac Boggs and in about 1903 they moved to Laurel County, traveling about 60 miles in a wagon pulled by oxen on dirt roads. The trip took several weeks.
Isaac & Rachel Jane Bailey Boggs built a new home on (now) Sasser School Rd London, Kentucky, about 1903. The home was a tall, 2 story, very large home with 8 rooms, L shaped, wrap around porch with balcony and fireplaces throughout home.
All the Boggs children were raised there as well as grandchildren Andrew F Yadon, Jane Lois Whittaker, Mary Helen Whittaker, Dorothy Fay Whittaker, Isaac Brack Whittaker & Boyd Lee Whittaker (children of Artha).
Isaac and Rachel gave all their children several acres to build homes on; Dory, Mary & Artha lived pretty close - several acres apart and between two mountains...Rocky Knob and Turkey Knob. At this home most of the family and whoever needed a meal met every Sunday after church for a big Sunday dinner.
The home was given to daughter Artha after her marriage. The home was struck by lightening & burned to ground in 1963.

death certificate listed birthplace as Leslie Co., but Leslie Co. was not created until 1878 from Clay, Harlan & Perry. Her family is on the 1880 Perry Co. census, so birthplace is probably Perry Co.
