Biography

I have been unable this far to find a source for Joseph's birth. Quite a few years ago I was in touch with someone who was researching the Bailey family and he gave me his findings and salient points in the wills of Joseph's father and mother. Joseph was an executor of his mother's will in 1878. He said that Joseph was born in1832 and Christened on 23rd October 1832 in Brompton, but neither Family Search or MyHeritage confirm this. Most of the census records indicate an 1832 or 1833 birth. In 1851 age 18 he is "ag lab" on his father's farm. On Christmas Day 1855 he married Esther Farrer after banns. Joseph signed the register Esther made her mark. Joseph's father Joseph is a farmer and Esther's a labourer By 1861 they have 3 children aged 4,2 and 1 at Sedgefield and still "ag lab" 1871 and 5 more children added and he is now a drayman. 2 more children by 1881and Esther died in1883, Joseph went on for another 35 years before dying of "senile debility" age 87
