Mr. Bailey, Sr., came to Missouri in 1857, and located upon a pioneer farm, three miles northwest of the present home of his son. He was shot down by guerrillas at the beginning of the Civil War because of his Union sympathies. He was taken from his home in company with his son James and shot down by a band of Southern men.
