Biography

Ruth Emmeline Bailey was born on 31 Mar 1908^[1] in MacDonald River, New South Wales, Australia as the twelfth child of David Bailey and Ann Elizabeth Fernance. She had thirteen siblings, namely: David Hilton, Jane Gertrude, Reuben Herbert, Hilda Ivy, George Malcolm, Dinah, Rubina Grace, Mervyn, Stella, Henry, Joyce Marcella, Ruth Emeline, Aynsley and Geoffrey. She died on 19 Jul 1998^[2] in Cessnock, New South Wales, Australia. When she was 18, she married Cecil Eric Bailey, son of Newman Prosper Bailey and Dinah Julia Fernance, on 21 Jan 1927^[3] in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia.

Cecil Eric Bailey and Ruth Emmeline Bailey had the following children:

• Verlie Grace Bailey was born on 27 May 1927 in St Albans, New South Wales, Australia. She died on 17 Jan 2005 in Cardiff, New South Wales, Australia. She married Kenneth Vincent McDonald in 1944 in Cessnock, New South Wales, Australia.
• Cecil Raymond Bailey was born in 1928 in Clarence Town, New South Wales, Australia. He married Maureen Howells in 1959 in Cessnock, New South Wales, Australia.
• Dinah Bailey was born on 21 Feb 1929 in St Albans, New South Wales, Australia.

We come today to celebrate a long life, a life filled with love for family, a life filled with hospitality and care; to offer our thanks to Almighty God for Ruth "Ma" Bailey -- and to commend her to Him.

Ruth was born on 31 March, 1908. She was one of fourteen. She married Cecil Bailey at Gosford. They lived on the family property at St Albans where Verlie and Dinah were born. They then moved to Cessnock to Church Street, where they had a mixed business: later they moved to Bellbird where Ray was born and then to West Cessnock. Ma lost her husband in 1970 but she always continued to be a strong family person.

These last 15 years have been spent at Allendale Hospital after Ruth suffered a stroke. She was loved by all at Allendale. She never complained and always had a smile. You as family always surrounded her with your love and attention over that time. You gave back some of the love Ma had given you.

In her earlier years she showed great hospitality. The tea pot was never cool and all were welcomed even the clergy after a service at St Matthews or later at St Peters got a "feed". She was a good cook and great pudding maker.

Amongst the other attributes she was also the best mother - in - law. Her brother Ainsley told me that as a child they were taught that goodness was next to Godliness and Ruth tried to live up to that saying.

Ma has 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Today we celebrate her life, giving thanks for the life shared -- and we pray she has found new life with Christ Jesus. Jesus says " In my father's house there are many rooms." That there is a permanent home with God for all of us.

And so we leave in God's care Ruth Bailey.
