Biography

Thomas was a Friend (Quaker)
This profile is part of the Bailey Name Study.

Thomas Bailey was born in 1701 in Middletown-Aston, Pennsylvania, son of Joel Bailey Sr. (1658 - 1728) and Ann (Short) Baily (1666 - 1731).[1]

His siblings were:

  1. Mary (Bailey) Harlan (1688 - 1741)
  2. Ann (Bailey) Cloud (1691 - 1774)
  3. Daniel Bailey Sr. (1693 - 1783)
  4. Isaac Bailey (1695 - 1732)
  5. Joel Bailey Jr. (1697 - 1775)
  6. John Bailey (1698 - 1793)
  7. Josiah Bailey (1701 - 1791)

Thomas (~32) married Sarah Bentley (~25) (1708 - 1767) on 9 Mar 1734 in Kennett, Chester, Pennsylvania.[1] Their children were:

  1. John Bailey (1734 - 1789)
  2. Jemima (Bailey) Leonard (~1743 - ~1800)
  3. Mary Bailey (<1743 - )
  4. Isaac Bailey Sr. (1743 - 1826)
  5. Nancy Ann (Bailey) Powell (~1749 - ~1786)
  6. Nancy Ann Bailey (~1750 - 1786)
  7. Thomas Bailey (1753 - >1817)
  8. Sarah Bailey (1755 - 1830)
  9. Hannah Bailey (1758 - ).

Thomas died in 1764 in Newlin, Chester aged ~63.

In "History of Chester County, Pennsylvania" (Futhey and Cope, 1881), it says that after his marriage to Ann Short, Joel Bailey resided on land "partly in Middletown and partly in Aston, but in 1704-5 he removed to Marlborough, settling first in the eastern part of what is now East Marlborough, and later in West Marlborough, where he died in 1732." Therefore, Joel and Ann's children, who were born before 1704, were born in the Middletown-Aston area of Pennsylvania, which was part of Chester County then, but is in Delaware County now. (Delaware County was created in September 1789 from part of Chester County.)
