Biography

Leila (aka Lila) was born about 1877. In 1900, Leila was living with her father and siblings in Jefferson, Jackson, Georgia. They were next door to Henry Freeman.^[1]

She married Henry Freeman on 29 Jan 1901 in Jackson County, Georgia.^[2]

Henry passed away in 1909. By 1910, she and her three children, Jessie, Claude and Dell (sic), were living with her father, J L Bailey, in Jefferson, Jackson, Georgia. Her son, Claude (aka Clyde) was listed as a granddaughter. to her father.^[3]

Leila married Robert Holliday sometime after the 1910 census. The Jackson Herald listed their names among people who had marriage licenses recorded between 1 Jan 1910 and 12 Jan 1911.^[4]

In 1920, the couple was living in Red Stone, Jackson, Georgia. Leila was incorrectly referred to as Ledia on the census.^[5] The household included:

The census stated they had been married 25 years but that does not compute with daughter Jessie Freeman being 28 years old and her father not dying until 1908. It is more likely Robert and Leila had been married 20-21 years.^[6] The household included:

Leila passed away in 1974.^[8] Burial was in the Woodbine-Jefferson City Cemetery, Jefferson, Jackson County, Georgia.^[9]
