She is listed as Nancy Jane Bain in a land warrant issued to the orphans of John Bain. John enlisted as a private in Captain Ambreston's Company , Alabama Volunteers, in the Cherokee War. He was later entitled to a land warrant for military service as a result. This warrant was issued in 1854 to his orphans. [2]
