Biography

Lazarus Threlfall Bawtry Baines was born on May 10, 1836 in Lancaster, Lancashire, England.^[1]

He was christened on 4 Aug that year in Lancaster. ^[2]

In 1851, he was a boarder at Preston Grammar school. ^[3]

He was educated at Cheltenham College.^[1][4]

From there he went up to Trinity College Cambridge, where he was awarded a 1st Class Honours degree in Law. He was also awarded the Chancellor's Medal for Legal Studies.^[1]

He married Ellen Mary Werge n 24 APR 1860 in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire.^[5]

He was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1864.^[1]

In 1871, he is living with his wife and 6 children in Esher and is recorded as a barrister.^[6]

He served as a Justice of the Peace^[7][8]

He lived at Bawtry Hall in Yorkshire (picture [5]).^[1]

He and his family are there by the 1881 census.^[9]

Still there in 1891 ^[10]

And in 1901. ^[8]

He later moved to Westbrook Hall, Sussex(picture [6]), where he died suddenly on 24th June 1905.^[1][11]
