Biography

William Baird, 5th of Newbyth was the son of William Baird and Catherine Binning. [1]

William married firstly to Sarah Murray.

They had two children who died young.

He married Alicia Johnston, daughter of Robert Johnston.

He died on 5 January 1765.

He lived at Newbyth, East Lothian, Scotland

"Sir David Baird was the fifth son of an Edinburgh merchant, William Baird of Newbyth, who was grandson of Sir Robert Baird, Bart., of Saughton, and cousin and heir of Sir John Baird, Bart., of Newbyth, and Alicia Johnston."

Research Notes

The birth year was previously an unsourced "about 1800", which conflicted with both his son David (born 1757) and daughter Charlotte (born 1750). I added a snippet from his son David's Wikipedia page saying he was the fifth son. I am changing the estimate to about 1725, 25 years before the elder of these to correct the suggestion.

William was born in 1697. He passed away in 1765.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
