Margaret was born 28 Jan 1882 in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the daughter of William Baird, a tobacco-pipe maker, and Martha Stewart. [1]
On 14 Nov 1902 at Bridgeton, Glasgow, she married James Nelson, a wood salesman, son of William Nelson and Janet Eaglesham. She was a sewing machinist living in Glasgow at the time. The witnesses were William Forbes and Mary Nelson. [2]
With her two children Maggie and James (born Scotland), she emigrated to New Zealand on the Ionic arriving 16 Jun 1909 at Wellington; bound for Lyttelton, Canterbury. Husband James does not appear to have been on this sailing. [3]
She passed away in New Zealand in 1927 age 45. [4]
Her daughter Linda (born 1927) was adopted by adopted by Ada and Charles Robinson . [5]
Her middle name is given as "McLaren" on the marriage record and NZ BDM, and apparently on the Scottish birth record although it is hard to read. However in the Scottish civil registration she appears to have a sibling with the middle name McClelland.
This profile previously had a death date of 10 Jan 1927 added, but that must be incorrect if the attached child born Jun 1927 is correct. The NZ BDM Death record gives a date of 17 July 1927.
