Biography
When George Washington Baird was born in February 1860 in Gibson, Tennessee, his father, James, was 50 and his mother, Caroline, was 44. He married Mattie Laura Harper on October 11, 1893, in Fulton, Kentucky.[1] They had seven children:
- Charles Harper Sr (1894–1970)
- Marie (1896–)
- Eric Earl (1898–1959)[2]
- Winnie D (1901–1947)
- Leon 'Lennie' (1904–1975)[3]
- Ernest Bickford (1906–1927)
- Mary Oma (1908–1982)
He died in 1909 in Hickman, Kentucky, at the age of 49.[4]
George's wife, Mattie, is buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery, located near Hickman, Fulton County, Kentucky. Family history accepts that George is also buried in this cemetery; however, after a careful search of the cemetery, NO GRAVESTONE has been found for him.[5]
