Alfred John Baird was born at home, 196 Bourke Street, Sydney on 19th September, 1899.[1] He was the son of Alfred Alexander Baird (1868-1948) and Joanna Margaret Gibson (1871-1967).
He was 30 years old and working as a clerk when he married Thelma Maud York (1905-1989), a bookkeeper from Hurlstone Park, on 15th March, 1930. The ceremony was performed by Fr. Edmund O’Donnell. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Sydney. At the time of his marriage, Alfred was living in Kensington.[2]
Maude Thelma York was born (Thelma Maud) in Sydney in 1905, the second youngest of six children of George Henry York, a railway officer and Alice Teresa Hardman. Maude’s father died in 1927 three years before her marriage to Alfred. Alfred and Maude had three children - all sons.
All their married lives Alfred and Maude lived at 25 Rippon Way, Rosebery. He was an accountant who managed the Railway Refreshment Rooms with their head office at Central Railway. Alfred loved his gardening, he grew beautiful dahlias and kept chickens for their eggs. A staunch catholic he was a regular church goer.
BAIRD Alfred John - July 31, 1985, late of Rosebery, dearly loved husband of Maud, loved father of Colin, Keith and Robert, dear father-in-law of Janette and Evelynne, loved grandfather of their children, dear brother of Linda, aged 85 years. May he rest in peace.[4] |
