Biography

Charlotte Elizabeth Baker was the daughter of Lemuel P. Baker and Alice E. Sibley. Charlotte was born in Ausable NY on 8 Mar 1890. (Her gravestone says 1889.) She had five older brothers and one younger sister. They were: Willard (1879-1939, married Alice Morford), Wallace H. (1882-1942, married Eva D. Baker), John C. (1884-after 1930, married Gertrude), Myron W. aka "Uncle Chick" (1887-1973, married Daisy Woodruff), Eddie, and Eva (1896-1954, married Mitchell Terry).

On 6 Jan 1904, Charlotte married Charlie C. Allen. Charlotte was 14 years old, and Charlie was 27 years old. Together they had two children. The first child died before 1905. The second child was a daughter named Helen (1906-1977). The marriage ended in divorce.

On 21 Mar 1913, Charlotte married her cousin Allen Sibley Baker. (Charlotte's father and Allen's father were brothers, and Charlotte's mother and Allen's mother were sisters.) Together they had 8 children: Orville (1913-1991, married Helen Baker), Cora (1914-1997, married Daniel Ryan), Alice (1916-1998, married Peter Casella), Goldie (1919-before 1997, married Walter O'Neill), Sylvia (1920-1988), Martin (1921-1978, married Margaret Arnold), Chellys (1931-2008, married Frank Greenwood), and Thedra (1932-2015, married Fred Coolidge).

Charlotte must have been proud of her family as she regularly contributed short articles to the local newspaper about all their events and accomplishments.

Charlotte died of kidney failure at home in Harkness NY on 21 Nov 1947 at the age of 58. Her funeral was held at the Harkness Methodist Church, and she was buried in the cemetery at Harkness.
