John Baker (born c 1608) was the eldest son of Sir Henry Baker, Knt & Bt., and Katherine Smythe.[1][2][3][4][5]
The marriage of Sir John 'Backer' and 'Mrs [Mistress] Mary Parckhurst' took place on 09 Dec 1628 at St Peter-le-Poer, City of London.[6][7][8]
Mary Parkhurst was a daughter of Robert Parkhurst and Eleanor Babington.[9]
Complete Baronetage[2] referred to the wife of John Baker as 'Eleanor' Parkhurst. Hasted[3], Burke[4] and Akerman/King[5] referred to her as 'Elizabeth' Parkhurst. However, the Parkhurst pedigree in the Visitation of Surrey[2] did not identify a daughter of Robert Parkhurst named Eleanor, and his daughter Elizabeth married a Thomas Harvey then Edmund Sawyer. A daughter Anne married George Mynne and a daughter Rebecka died in childhood, leaving one unaccounted for daughter, Mary Parkhurst.
Children:[7]
With the exception of John and Elizabeth the other children of John Baker and Mary Parkhurst died as infants or early in childhood.[7]
John succeeded to the Baronetcy around 04 Dec 1623.[2]
John was Sheriff of Kent in 1633-1634 and MP for Hastings in 1640.[2]
In 1644 he was fined £3000 for being a royalist supporter.[2]
He died 15 Jan 1653/1654[2] and was buried 25 Jan 1653/4.[7]
