Karl was born in 1896. He is the son of Joseph Baker and Lucy Shields.

SPEARFISH -- Services for Karl Franklin Baker, 90, will be Tuesday at 1 p. m. at Fidler Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Vessey officiating.
Baker had been hospitalized for some time at Fort Meade and recently moved to Dorsett Memorial Home in Spearfish where he died Friday.
Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors by members of American Legion and Auxiliary Post 164 boys and girls all State Program.
Visitation will be at the funeral home until 9:00 p.m. Sunday from 9 a.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born March 14, 1896, at Grand River, Iowa, to Joseph and Lucy (Shields) Baker. He moved to Missouri, and later to South Dakota, as a child with his parents. On June 24, 1918, he enlisted in the Army and served in Europe during World War I and was honorably discharged June 16, 1919. He returned to South Dakota and established a homestead on the Moeau River in Perkins County. He also worked on various farms and ranches in North Dakota and South Dakota. On June 14, 1933, he married Thelma Holtry at Zeona. The resided there until moving to Spearfish in 1959. He was employed at Beck's Nursery on Evans Lane in Spearfish for several years.
He was a member of VFW Post 5860, American Legion Post 164 and the United Methodist Church.
