Biography

Mary was born about 1765 and died 1842. She married John Berry Brittain 1 Jan, 1795. She was an organizing member of Sandy Creek Primitive Baptist church 8 October 1824, located in Butts, Georgia. "The Baptist Church of Christ having met at the house of Elijah Twilley for the purpose of being constituted into a body to wit Mary Britton, Charles Heard, Elendar Heard, John Floyd, Stephen Baley, Mary Baley, John Edwards, Minor Kilcreas, Margaret Kilcreas, Gillian Preston (crossed out), Sary Preston, James Reynolds (marked out), Nancy Gorey (marked out, she joined by letter 22 Nov), James Humphrey (marked out deceased Feb 1832)". Meeting house to be called Sandy Creek. Meetings "3rd Sunday and Saturday before in every month" [1]

Research Notes

Some believe Mary's maiden name was Edwards rather than Baker. it should be noted that there were Baker family members listed in tax records that John and family were found in. But, as noted above, there was a John Edwards at the same church.
