Nancy was born on 1 January 1852 in Zenas, Jennings County, Indiana, USA. She was the daughter of Daniel Baker and Margaret (Underwood) Baker.^[1]

In the 1870 census Nancy (age 18) was living in Columbia, Jennings, Indiana, USA. Residence Post Office: Zenas.^[1]

When Nancy was 23 she married George W Griner on 7 September 1875 in Jennings, Indiana.^[2][3]
