Biography

William Baker is listed as the father on James Chrisman Baker's death certificate. Date of birth is estimated according to census records.

Name: William Baker. Given Name: William. Surname: Baker. [1]

  • Fact: Also Known As Bill Baker
  • Fact: Residence (1860) Marsh Creek, Whitley, Kentucky, United States
  • Fact: Suspected death date 1862-1865 He probably died in the civil war while fighting for the confederate army. Based on the birthdate of their last child and Malinda's new marriage and subsequent children with her new husband, William most likely died in the years of 1862 and 1866. As this was during the civil war and this area was in the center of the battle it makes sense. There are records of a William Bakers that joined the confederate army from this county but none that have enough information to officially match him or concluded this as his date death. On the other hand I don't think that he and Malinda were ever officially married so their marriage may have ended just as unofficially, but considering his age, the date and location, death during the civil war makes more sense.
  • Fact: Parents I'm not sure (because there is no proof) that Charles Baker and Mary Allford are William Baker's parents. AND there is no proof that the William Baker that married Malinda Jones had the middle name of Preston. BUT, since someone seems to think this is a possibility I will leave it as such for now until proven otherwise.

1860 Federal Census records - Marsh Creek, Whitley Co., KY - 23 Aug. 1860. He's not listed in any census after that. Listed as age 55. William is listed on 4 of his children's death records and 2 of the children's birth records. James and Salina were twins.

NOTES

His middle name could possibly be Preston. Some researchers have that listed.

Some researchers have his parents as Charles Baker and Mary Alford but I have seen no proof that this is true so, for now, that portion is left blank until proof can be found either way.
