Biography

Martha Jane Baker was born on 10 Dec 1868;[1] she was the daughter of William Baker and Hannah Wallace.[2]

In 1870,[2] Martha J. Baker (age 2, born Tennessee) was living in Anderson County, Tennessee in the household of her father, Wiliam H. H. Baker (age 29, born Tennessee), with her mother, Hanah J. Baker (age 23, born Tennessee), and her Baker siblings, all born in Tennessee (age, sex): i) Mary (8, F), ii) William W. (5, M), iii) Nancy E. (0, F). Her father's occupation was a farmer, and her mother was "keeping house". Her father's real estate was valued at $600, and his personal estate was valued at $725.

In 1880,[3] Martha J. Baker (age 12, born Tennessee) was living in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas in the household of her father, William H. H. Baker (age 43, born Tennessee), with her mother, Hannah J. Baker (age 23, born Tennessee), with her Baker siblings (all but the youngest born in Tennessee: i) William Wallace (15, M), iii) Nancy E. (age 10), iv) Thursy A. (age 7), v) Rufus O. (age 5), vi) Orie Bell (age 2, born in Texas). William H. H. Baker was working in a lumber yard. Based on the ages and birth locations of Rufus O. Baker and Orie Bell Baker, then it appears that the Baker family moved from Tennessee to Texas between 1876 - 1878.

On 15 Feb 1883 in Jefferson County, Texas,[4] Martha Jane Baker married J. Hatcher.

In 1900,[5] Martha Hatcher (age 33, born Dec 1863 in Tennessee) was living in Jefferson County, Tennessee in the household of her husband of 17 years, Jack Hatcher (age 39, born Aug 1861 in Texas), with their Hatcher children, born Texas (age, sex): i) Steve (16, M), ii) Ammie (13, F), iii) Emma (10, F), iv) Allen (8, M), v) Arba (5, F), vi) Hannah (3, F). Martha had born 6 children, all of whom were currently living. Jack's occupation was a farm laborer.

Martha Jane (Baker) Hatcher died on 8 Jan 1902, and she was buried in the China Cemetery, China, Jefferson County, Texas.[1]
