Biography

Ellie Florine Baker was born on 19 Feb 1890 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas; she was the daughter of William Baker and Hannah Wallace.[1]

In 1900,[2] "Effie F. Baker" (age 10, born Texas) was living in Livingston, Polk County, Texas in the household of her father, William H. H. Baker (age 60, born Tennesee), with her mother, Hannah J. Baker (age 53, born Tennessee), and her Baker siblings: i) Rufus O. (age 25, born in Tennessee, occupation farm laborer), ii) John H. (18, born in Texas, occupation farm laborer), iii) Hattie E. (15, born in Texas), iv) Stella T. (age 12, born in Texas).

On 15 Dec 1908 in Sour Lake, Hardin County, Texas,[3] Effie Florine Baker, consort of William Harvey Byrd, gave birth to a son, Otis Eugene Byrd. Of note, the birth register lists Otis as "legitimate", suggesting that his parents were then married. However, a little over a year later in the 1910 federal census,[4] Effie continued to be using her maiden surname, Baker, and Otis's surname was also Baker.

In 1910,[4] Effie F. Baker (age 20, born Texas) was living in Sour Lake, Hardin County, Texas in the household of her widowed mother, "Mrs. M. J. Baker" (age 62, born Tennessee), with her son, Otis Baker (age 1, born Texas), and with her sister, Stella T. Baker (age 21, born Texas), and with her brother, R. O. Baker (age 34, divorced, born Tennessee). Stella had no occupation listed. R. O's occupation was a fireman in the oil field industry. Mrs. M. J. Baker had no occupation listed, but had her own income.

On 01 Jan 1913 in Jefferson County, Texas,[5] Miss Florine Baker married W. H. Byrd.

On 14 Jan 1920,[6] Florine Byrd (age 28, born Texas) was living on South 3rd Street, Sour Lake, Hardin County, Texas in the household of her husband, William H. Byrd (age 28, born Arkansas), and their Byrd children, born Texas (age, sex): i) Otis (11, M), ii) Eudora (5, F). William's occupation was an engineer.

Ellie Florine (Baker) Byrd died on 27 Nov 1920 in the "Hotel Dieu", Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas.[1] The cause of death was an abscess of the pancreas, for which she had had an operation on 22 Nov 1920. Prior to the operation, her residence had been in Sour Lake, Texas. She was married at the time of her death. Information about her was provided by W. H. Byrd. She was buried on 28 Nov 1920 in Sour Lake, Texas.
