Biography

Reuben was a Friend (Quaker)

Reuben was born 25 Feb 1756 in Cranston, Rhode Island.[1] He was the son of William and Martha Barker.[1]

Reuben was received on request at the Easton monthly meeting on 20d 1m 1786 [20 Jan 1786].[2] On 20 9m 1786 [20 Sep 1786], he witnessed the marriage of Josiah Varney and Lydia Brown at Queensbury.[3]

On 18d 4m 1787 [18 Apr 1787] Reuben produced a certificate at the Nine Partners monthly meeting from the Saratoga monthly meeting to marry.[4] He married Martha Palmer the next day.[5] The following excerpt is from the records of the Nine Partners monthly meeting:[6]

Nine Partners Nineteenth day of the fourth month in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven Hundered and Eighty Seven [1787].
Whereas Reuben Baker of Saratoga in Albany County … and Martha Palmer of the Nine-Partners … declared their intention … at the Nine Partners … Consent of Parents … Allowed of by said Meeting … [signed] Reuben Baker Martha Baker …
