Sir Richard Baker (by 1530 - 27 May 1594) was the eldest son of Sir John Baker, Chancellor of the Exchequer. He m. (1) Katherine Tyrell, stepdaughter of Sir William Petre and da. and heiress of John Tyrell (d. 1540) of Heron, Essex and Anne Browne, da. of Sir William Browne, Lord Mayor of London and Alice Keble and (2) Mary Gifford, da. of John Gifford.[1]
He was a lawyer at the Inner Temple, succeeded his father in 1558 and was knighted 31 Aug 1573. He was MP for Horsham April 1554, Lancaster Nov 1554 and New Shoreham in 1558. [2]
Richard Baker's first wife was Katherine (Catherine) Tyrrell, daughter of John Tyrrell and Anne Browne.[3]
Guy Ellis Baker, Esq of Albany, New York was the premier genealogist of the Bakers of the Roxbury Colony. He incorrectly contended that Thomas Baker of Roxbury was the son of Thomas Baker (c 1557 – 1625) and Alice Lemon, grandson of Sir Richard Baker (c 1527 - 1594) and Catherine Terrell and great-grandson of Sir John Baker (1488 – 1558) and Elizabeth Dingley.
