Biography

Translation of immigration document from Norway. Original in possession From the Ministers Office in Kviteseid, Telemark Farmer Guttorm Knudson Hægtveit (illegible) born on 1-first-April 1831-eighteen hundred, one and thirty- of parents Knud Olsen and his wife Kirsti Guttormsdatter Aakre, then Farmers on Overland in Sejord, and that he in the same place was confirmed 18-eighteen, August 1848-eighteen hundred, eighteen hundred, eight and forty, and also was married on 16-sixteen June 1857- seven and fifty, in the Seljord church with girl Aslaug Gunlechsdatter Bakken, who died on 2-two, January 1866, six and sixty-and she left after her 3-three children who still live. Children's father Guttorm Knudson Hægtveit was after his 1-first wife's death married on 11-eleventh- May 1869-nine and sixty with girl Birgeth Johannesdatter Aase Born 17-seventeen, May 1842-forty and two, of parents Johannes Halvorsen and his wife Gunhild Hansdatter, then farmers on Aase, in Brunkeberg parish Confirmed the 12-twelve, September-1858-eight and fifty, and when married took in Guttorm's three children, followed by two of their own. Son Johannes born 25-five and twenty- August 1869-nine and sixty Baptized 19-nineteen, October of same year Daughter Aslaug, born 17-seventeen, March 1873-three and seventy Baptized 27-seven and twenty, July of same year (illegible) All of them and Knud -another son of Guttorm- who was born 3 Oct 1865, Five and Sixty, and Baptized 5 November of same year, want to emigrate to America. As the minister of Kviteseid, Telemark, I certify that there is no reason not to allow these good people the right to leave this country, and so as pastor I wish them God's Grace in Jesus Christ.
