Carol Lee (Balcom) Wise was born July 9, 1941, to Leigh Balcom and Bertha Profitt in Spokane, and passed away Sept. 24, 2014, at her home in Lewiston, surrounded by family and friends.

Carol moved to Bovill with her mother and stepfather Ole Hagen. She attended Holy Family School in Clarkston, Holy Cross in Colton, and graduated from high school in Tucson, Ariz.

Carol returned to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and married James T. Davis in 1959. Together they had two sons, W.R. Michael Davis and Christopher Anthony Davis. For a short time they lived in Troy, then in Clarkston. Carol attended Lewiston Business College and received a business degree. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1968, Carol met Paul Wise. Judge Bud Ponack married them May 4, 1971.

Carol was secretary for the Lewiston City Council and later was employed by the state of Idaho, where she worked for the Health and Welfare Department, retiring after 26 years. She was involved in the YWCA as a board member and worked on their Crisis Hotline, Democratic Party, Genealogy Society, Catholic Daughters, Civic Theatre, Hurlbut Mansion, North Idaho Children's Home, Boys and Girls Club, Paul H. Wise Scholarship Fund for Lewis-Clark State College, and most importantly, Friends of Bill W. for 21 years.

Carol enjoyed gardening, hosting dinners for family and friends, annual yard sales and working in Paul's and her Christmas tree business.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul Wise; sisters Jewell (George) Lutich and Helen Perry; and brothers Cifford Grimm and James Balcom.

She is survived by sons Michael (Lisa) Davis of Salt Lake City and Christopher (Pamela) of Tacoma; stepsons Robert (Nancy) Wise of Portland, Ore., and Mark Wise of Lewiston; stepdaughter Sally (Alan) Hedrick of Clarkston; grandchildren Lillian Davis, Tamesen (Mikel) Davis and Talisha Davis, all of Lewiston, Thomas Davis of Spokane, Kyle Davis of Salt Lake City; and great-grandson Sebastian Davis of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by two special friends, Carol Stegner and Virginia Page. Thanks go to Janet, Kathy, Debbie, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Dr. Brady and Dr. Rowland.

Memorials can be made to Holy Family Church, YWCA, Paul H. Wise Scholarship Fund at LCSC or a charity of one's choice.

Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home. Holy rosary service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church, with the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery. A lunch will be served at Holy Family Church after the services. ^[1]
