Biography

Hattie (Baldwin) McCarty was born in Minnesota.

"Hattie," the daughter of Giles Baldwin and Letitia Warner, was born 1884 in Stearns County, Minnesota.[1] She married 1) Joseph Franklin Palmer (1878-1906) on 16 August 1899 in Stearns County, Minnesota.[2] Joseph was born in New York about 1878. They had the following children:

  1. Albert J. Palmer (b. 1900, MN; d. 5 Mar 1924, MN), m. Pearl Jessie Victoria Lockwood (1902-1926)
  2. Inez Jesse Palmer (b. 1904 MN; d. 1972), m. 1) Thomas Arthur Crotty (1909-1953); m. 2) Dana Russell Stottlemyer (1906-1976).

Hattie m. 2) Joseph Apfeld and had a son, Bernard Franklin Apfeld (1906-1978), who had been taken from her at 16 months and adopted. Her husband disappeared and was never head from. Hattie married 3) Robert Kimball McCarty (b. 1879, MN; d. 1953, WI) about 1908 in Minnesota. In addition to the two children from her previous marriage, they had the following children according to the 1920 U.S. Census:[3]

  1. Charlotte M. McCarty (b. 28 Jul 1908, MN; 11 Feb 1983, CA), m. ? Ferrara
  2. Lionne A. McCarty (b. 1913, MN)
  3. Milo James Giles McCarty (b. 10 Oct 1916, MN; 18 Mar 1947, CA), m. Gloria (Unknown)
  4. Lorraine Cleo McCarty (b. 1919, MN; 1999, CA), m. Paul John
