Samuel was born about 1766 in Prince Edward, Virginia. He is believed to be the son of William Baldwin and Anne Elizabeth Wimbish.

  • Albert Baldwin, Son - 850 acres (Buckingham, VA purchased Hodnetts), asccesed at $6500 and $3600 being from the sale of land to Booker, along with all the negros valued $3587 to him and heirs forever.
  • Ann E (Baldwin) Elcan - the following slaves and their increase - Harry, Isaac, Jacob Collins, Shadrack Christian, (Archer Brown 1827), Jim, Caroline, Tayton Sam, MaryMary Haskins, Patience and her child. (purchased from Dr Elean's sale) all household furniture, stock and all other items purchased by me at the sale to the amount of $6238. I also give to Ann and Elcan the following slaves and their increase, Dorcus and three children, Peter, Ben and Amaka.
  • William Baldwin, Son - The lower half of land on Cob Creek 760 acres, half of the mill (shared with sister Almira) valued at $9450. Value of the land and negros $3270 to his and heirs forever.
  • Samuel - Given negros in value of $4050 and other things in leu of land to the amount of $4095. After death or remarriage of my wife the land I own not herein otherwise shall go to my son Samuel, at the price of $8500. If he does not choose to do this then the lands will be sold by my Executors', then the money will be divided equally between my children.
  • Wife - to my wife, all my lands the land I own not herein otherwise disposed of all my household and kitchen furniture, stock of all kinds, Plantation utensils, carts, wagons, carriage, crops of all kinds oh hand at y death. All negros not herein disposed of to have and hold such times she remains my widow. If she remarries she takes takes 1/3 of land and Negros. This 1/3 is for to hold for all her natural life.
