Jonathan Baldwin was born about 1669, based the estimated marriage year of his parents, and most likely was born in Newark, New Jersey, based on his parent's known history. His parents were Benjamin and Hannah (Sargeant) Baldwin. They were married in Branford, Connecticut, but Benjamin was an early settler of Newark, New Jersey, where lots were assigned to him in 1668, 1669, and 1670[1]. Benjamin and Hannah moved to Newark as part of the exodus from New Haven Colony that started when New Haven Colony merged into Connecticut Colony. Hannah's brother Jonathan was one of the founders of Newark in 1666. A reasonable assumption is that Hannah and Benjamin moved to Newark just after their marriage in Branford, and that their children were all born in Newark.
Jonathan married Susannah Kitchell, daughter of Samuel and Grace (Pierson) Kitchell, in Newark in about 1698, based on the birth of their first known child in 1699[2].
Jonathan and Susannah had children, all born in Newark[3], and listed in their grandfather Benjamin Baldwin's will of 17 May 1726[4]:
Jonathan was deceased at the time his father wrote his will, so he died before May 1726[4]. There is a Find A Grave memorial for him which has an incorrect death date: Find A Grave: Memorial #12943976
The FamilySearch profiles for Jonathan and Susannah have a number of errors, and are not to be relied on, as of February 2023. The Find a Grave memorial indicates that Jonathan was born in Connecticut and that he died August 9, 1726, and needs to be corrected.
