Born in Bernice, LA on January 2, 1962 to parents John T. "Jack" Baldwin, Jr., and Winnifred Virginia Smith Baldwin. Delivered by Dr. Calvin Reeves. Went to kindergarten at Bernice United Methodist Church, taught by Janice Terry. Attended first and second grade at Bernice High School, then was bussed to Lillie Elementary School (former Westside High School) after school integration in 1970. Attended Lillie Elementary for grades 3-7, then returned to Bernice High School for grades 8-9. Moved to Shreveport, LA in the summer after 9th grade in 1976 to attend summer school at Captain Shreve High School. Liked it so much, decided to stay and finish high school there. Due to attending summer school and taking courses by mail from LSU in Baton Rouge, graduated from Captain Shreve a year early, in 1979 instead of 1980. Performed a lot of work onstage while living in Shreveport. First in the chorus of "Pirates of Penzance"; again in the chorus of "Shenandoah"; and assistant director for "Ladies In Retirement", all at Shreveport Little Theatre, working under the direction of Frank Brink. Danced in Marie Gifford's production of "Showboat" with the choir from Southern University. Upon graduating high school, attended the 1979 fall semester at the University of Oklahoma as a Theatre Major, but left when the semester was over, returning to Louisiana to study architecture at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. Unhappy with that choice after two years, changed major to Graphic Design and moved back to Shreveport to finish out a BA in Liberal Arts. ****

Chris, I believe the information you have on Berma Cline is erroneous. I am the grandson of Elsie Baldwin, born 1899 to Benjamin Baldwin and Mollie Cline. The birth date of Elsie was 1899 (from her death certificate on Jan 1, 1932. Berma was Elsie's sister; I knew her; she was my father's aunt. Berma was born in 1895 and died in 1988 in Phoenix, Arizona. I came across your info as I was looking for the family of Elsie's mother, Mollie Cline. It is likely that Elsie always retained her father's name because she did not marry my grandfather.

I was born Christopher Thomas Baldwin, the youngest of three children to John Thomas "Jack" Baldwin, Jr. and Winnifred Virginia Smith "Winnie" Baldwin, of Bernice Louisiana. My father and his mother, Minnie Baldwin, were very much into the genealogy of their family. As I've aged, I find myself more interested as well. My dad traced us back as being first cousins 3 and 4 times removed to Doc Holiday, and my grandmother, in her many trips to Europe, traced us as direct descendants of Matilda Baldwin, the unwilling wife of William the Conqueror. I'm very intrigued to connect the dots.
