Caleb Baldwin was born in 1718 in Newark, Essex, New Jersey and later moved to Mendham, Morris, NJ. He died on April 20, 1755 (not April 20, 1775--which appears to be a typo in the Baldwin Family Genealogy, and was therefore widely duplicated.) His gravestone at Hilltop Cemetery in Mendham reads:
BALDWIN
Here lies what was mortal
of Caleb Baldwin who
Departed this life April
ye 20th 1755 in the 37
Year of his Age.
His will, dated April 9, 1755, and probated in 1758, names his children, Jabesh, Caleb, Mary and Phebe; and sets his wife, Hannah, and his brother-in-law, Capt. Joseph Beech, as executors.
