Her words about her name: I was born November 24, 1924, on Louisa Street, in the town of Rayville, Richland Parish, Louisiana, to Ethel Toombs Balfour and Hugh Ben Balfour. The delivery of my life into this world was made by Dr. J.C. Sartor, who was a country doctor, who made house calls, and delivered babies in the home. My name well that was a mystery for a while, because they couldn't decide what they wanted to name me. I was told that mother's good friend and coworker, Eva Williams, wanted to name me Ethlyn, half way for my mother, my mother wanted to name me Rosemary, for no apparent reason except that she liked that name. Well, for several days I didn't have a name except Baby Balfour. Since they couldn't make up their minds, the doctor decided for them. It wasn't until I went to work for South Central Bell Telephone Co., that I found out what name appeared on the birth certificate. Guess what ? Ethlyn Rosemary Balfour. Boy was I surprised.
