Two Sisters Sarah

This profile originally contained this statement: A previous version of this profile attached her as daughter of John Ball (Ball-5055/322(and Elizabeth Pierce. (Pierce-191) They did have a daughter named Sarah (Ball-2442), but she married Allen Flagg.

In fact, John Ball Senior had two daughters named Sarah, one by his first wife Elizabeth Pierce and one by second wife Elizabeth Fox.

John Ball Senior remarried to Elizabeth Fox on 3 Aug 1665 at Watertown[1] And while a typewritten transcript of Watertown vital records asserts that the Sarah born 11 July 1666 had a mother named Sarah,[2] a handwritten copy of those vital records (Volume 3 which was started in 1663 and was therefore contemporaneous) states that her mother was Elizabeth[3] i.e. Elizabeth Fox, second wife of John Ball Senior.

Although it is more commonly seen with sons than daughters, naming a second child (by a second wife) the same as an older, still living child (by a first wife) was a well-documented scenario. Elizabeth Fox was supposedly born in 1642 making her young enough to be the mother of Sarah born in 1666.

Biography

Birth date and parentage is inadequately sourced and a specific birth date of 9 Dec 1654 is asserted in the data section without source other than the unsourced assertion of a 1655 birth in a history written by Grace Ann Ball Dow (See Also section).[citation needed] Clearly "a" Sarah Ball existed in Massachusetts in 1677 who married Benjamin Chamberlain but whether that was her surname at birth and who her parents were is not adequately established.

Her marriage record to Benjamin Chamberlain spells her last name as Baul.[4]
