Biography

Matilda E. Ball was born in Kentucky in 1811. Matilda married Michael Miller in Perry County, Indiana, on April 30, 1828. She had just turned 17 years old.[1]The Millers were farmers in Breckinridge County, and by 1850 they had four children,

  1. Elizabeth age 19
  2. Jane age 17
  3. Alfred age 16
  4. Caroline age 14

in 1850.[2]

Thirty years later, Michael and Matilda were still living on the farm and had their grandson, Alfred Payne, living with them. Their son, Alfred, was living nextdoor, with his family, and Alfred was suffering from Typhoid Fever.[3]
