Biography

Native of Virginia.

Robert Smith Ball was the only child of Moses Ball and his first wife, Elizabeth Smith. His mother died. Robert's father married a second time to Mary Ann Smith and they had nine more children.

Robert married (1) Cynthia Ann McGlothlin b. 1852 (daughter of Cornelius McGuire McGlothlin and Mary Polly Honaker) on June 02, 1857 in Russell County, Virginia. They had four children:

Louisa Caroline Ball b. 1858 Martha Jane Ball b. 1859 Robert Ball b. 1861 Erastus John Ball b. 1863

Robert Smith Ball served in Civil War he enlisted in Confederate Army 37th VA Infantry Company G in New Garden, Virginia on 7-13-1861. He saw battle at Gettysburg on Culps Hill. He later joined the 22nd Virginia Cavalry.

Robert married (2) Penelope E Fletcher on November 06, 1866. They had 1 daughter together:
