John was a weaver. He was convicted at Glasgow for housebreaking and stealing from his parent's neighbours on the 23 September 1833 [1], and transported to New South Wales in 1834 on the Henry Tanner (14 years). He was 5 foot and 4 ¾ inches tall, and had a ruddy & freckled complexion, sandy to red hair, and hazel eyes. [2]
John received permission to marry Annie Munro, a free settler, on the 22nd May 1840.[3] They married at Wollongong on the 14th September 1840.[4]
The family moved to the Shoalhaven area, and later to Woodburn where John died in 1898.[5] John and Annie are buried in the Woodburn Cemetery.[6]
