Biography

James was born in 1815 in Putnam County, New York. [1]

He married Hannah Washburn. [1]

In 1843 he was granted land in Putnam County by Gilbert H. Travis. Book Q p.163. [2]

In 1855 he and Hannah resided in Haverstraw E.D.2, New York and was employed as a wall stonemason. With them were the following children: Alvin T (S 19), Sylvester (S 17), Phebe Jane (D 15), Ruhama (D 10), Daniel F (S 8), James E (S 6), Sylvenus (S 3), and Hannah E (D 1). [1]

In 1860, he and Hannah still resided in Haverstraw, New York but he had left stonemasonary and had become a farmer. The children living with them this time were the following children: [3] Ruhamah (D 16), Daniel F (S 13), James E (S 11), Sylvenus (S 8), Elizabeth (D 6), William (S 3), and Martha (D 1).

Not listed was Hannah E who would have been about 6 years old. A new child, Elizabeth was listed (D 6). It seems possible that Hannah E's middle name was Elizabeth and was commonly referred to by that name. [3]

James died before 22 November 1865. [4]
