Obituary from Lewis County Journal, 05/02/1929, Thursday, Page 1 - Etta J. Ballard, only daughter of Clark C. and Mary Ballard, was born February 27, 1895, and departed this life April 23, 1929. She united with the Methodist Church at Asbury Chapel in early life and lived a good Christian life and on one occasion she expressed herself to her mother in these words, "I am not afraid to die." She felt no fear of death, knowing that it would bring to her a happy release from suffering, never very strong as a child. She was always delicate and as she grew older her health gave way entirely and she suffered much but she bore her suffering with patience and Christian fortitude until last Tuesday when her Lord said, "Come up higher" and she went to her father who passed on May 20, 191`. She now is at rest from all earthly cares and suffering. She leaves her devoted and loving mother and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her departure. Services for this good girl were conducted at the home of her mother in Ewing on Friday at 10 a.m. by Rev. W.E. Akers, pastor of LaBelle Methodist Church, and she was lain to rest in the Ewing cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn. The beautiful floral offerings were a silent tribute of love from her friends and loved ones.
