Levi was born in 1 June 1813, in Limestone Township, Columbia County, (now Montour), Pennsylvania. He was the third son of John Balliet and Elizabeth Schreiber. Unlike his father and brothers who were farmers, Levi devoted his life to manufacturing and business, spending many years in merchandising in Limestoneville, McEwensville, and in latter years in Milton, where he suffered tremendously in the great fire of 14 May 1880. Levi married Elizabeth Follmer and they had 4 children before she passed away 9 May 1847. He married Matilda Hackenberg and they had 2 children.[1]
Levi passed away in 27 November 1891, in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Levi and both his wives were buried in Harmony Cemetery in Milton, Northumberland, Pennsylvania.
Note: County Name changes - Columbia County was formed 22 March 1813, from Northumberland and Luzerne Counties. On 3 May 1850 Montour County was created.
