Notes
Note N8Daniel Balliet was born March 1, 1788. He married Hanna Dupert about 1808 in Pennsylvania.
1
They were in Connoquenessing Twp, Butler Co, PA in 1850 with 4 children: Samuel, Mary, Sarah, Elias Edward (born 1848).
1
Daniel and Hanna migrated to Ohio around 1828. He was a wagon maker by trade, but after settling in Ohio, he became a farmer. Daniel's nephew Stephen reported that: "Daniel settled in Crawford County joining Richland on the west. Daniel had a hard time to get started. Caught coons and shot wild deer and fished while clearing land to raise wheat and corn. In the warm season all of the family went with bare feet. Old Daniel had a infected foot; one toe had a bad joint and it would lap under his foot while walking, which hurt and anoyed him. So he took a scythe and set his foot on a block and cut it short and healed it without a doctor.".
1
In six censuses his name is listed as Balliet, Bolyard, Bolard, Bolliard, and Boliard. One son used Balliett, the others used Bolyard; two grandsons adopted the Balyeat spelling of the family name. Daniel and Hanna had five sons and three daughters: Isaac, John, Daniel, Amos, Mary, Hannah, Enoch, and Elizabeth.
1
Daniel and Hanna both died in 1874 in Galion, Ohio, at ages 86 and 81. So far, I have not been able to locate their burial place.
1
When the price of the government land in Ohio went up, Daniel purchased 40 acres of land each in Indiana for John, Daniel, Amos and Mary. Our ancestor, Daniel's son Daniel, settled in Allen County, Indiana, west of New Haven, near Fort Wayne.
1
From the 1880 History of Morrow County, North Bloomfield Township: Daniel and Hannah Bolyard, were born and reared in Schuylkill Co., Penn., and emigrated to this State in 1830. Daniel, Sr. was a wagon-maker by trade, but made farming his chief occupation after coming to this State; he entered Government land, and by industry and close application to business, soon possessed a valuable farm, on which he lived until his death, which occurred in 1874.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:
Bolyard-240 and Balliet-95 appear to represent the same person because: Bolyard apparently was a commonly Americanized version of Balliet. The death certificate of my ancestor, Mary Nail (Bolyard) lists Daniel Balliet as her father.
(His father warrented this land in 1786.)
