Biography

Benjamin was probably born about 1761. According to the 1810 census for Adair County, Kentucky his age was 45 and over. [1]

If Benjamin was born about 1761 then he should be listed in the 1783 tax list of Virginia. In fact, there are two Benjamins in that tax list.

One Benjamin Ballenger was listed in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on May 13, 1783 and next to him was John Ballenger. [2] He was taxed for one white male tithable and 2 horses.

The second Benjamin Ballenger was found in Fairfax County, Virginia on May 29, 1783 listed next to Jacob Ballenger. [3] He was a young man because there was only one white male tithable enumerated and he had no possessions to pay taxes on. Not even a horse.
