Olivia was born about 1838. She is the daughter of Nelson Ballou and Elizabeth Cunningham.

NELSON BALLOU; born in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania about 1816; married Elizabeth Cunningham of Cambria County, Pennsylvania - parentage and birthdate not ascertained; date of marriage perhaps 1836 or 1837. (They had the following children):

1. Olivia; birth not given, burned to death 1843. (note: it was actually 1842)

2. Nelson; birth not given, burned to death 1843. (note: it was actually 1842)

Nelson Ballou was an industrious, worthy man. He was engaged near the Portage Raiload in Cambria County, PA, in arranging a large collection of heavy logs for convenient transportation. They caught advantage of him, rolled down on him, and crushed him to death. This occurred in 1840. A year later his broken-hearted widow died, leaving their two children to be cared for by their grand parents; and two years later in 1843 (note: it was actually in 1842), as we have already told, those grand parents and these two orphan grandchildren perished together in their burnt home. What a sad series of calamitous deaths almost extinguished the family of this Amariah Ballou! He, his wife, three sons and two grandchildren came to unnatural ends!
